In John Fowles' The French Lieutenants Woman the story was sad yet didn't affect me the way other really good novels do and then, the author stops mid-story to talk to the reader. Tell a story, don't talk to the reader it's really annoying just like the idiots who talk during movies.
I didn't like this book...don't read it.
